“I’d like to fly but my wings have been so denied.”

Through my teenage son music’s exploration, he discovered Alice in Chains and along with that, some rather impactful lyrics from the song “Down in a Hole”, which he brought to my attention after I listened to a few of their songs.

Ok, yes, Alice in Chains may not be at the top of my Spotify playlist, and I do not know much about the band, but the one song lyric resonated with me.

“I’d like to fly but my wings have been so denied.”  (“Down in a Hole” by Alice in Chains)

Why?  I have been struggling to actually start my life coaching business. Struggling to start writing a blog, and let the world know I have hung my shingle out for business. I want to help people feel better and not struggle so much through their lives, but my wings are being denied flight.  Not because of societal or financial reasons, but because of my own fear.   That massive beast that has been running my life for as long as I have memory of life itself.

F-E-A-R!

Fear of the unknown and with that, fear of failure.  We all have a “fear” that is demanding our attention to be listened to. To be adhered to. But fear makes us feel helpless and fragile. And I am not helpless.

Today, I am wrestling back that control and click-clacking away on my laptop.  It’s the first step.

What is your first step? What is your fear? What is holding you back from living more fully?
